We have many organized caravans taking place each year all over North America. Our Route 66 caravan goes by the catchy name of The Mother Lode of the Mother Road and occurs this year from September 11th through November 10th. The distance for our route is 2200 miles, 8 states, 3 t8me zones, and countless Oops and aahs along the way. We have not done the caravan but because of your helpful tips and advice, I am sure this will be great. Thank you.

Comment on Why You Should Consider Traveling During a Dead Week by Karen Baker https://samantha-brown.com/destinations/dead-week/#comment-331654 Fri, 23 Jan 2026 16:25:20 +0000 https://samantha-brown.com/?p=24323#comment-331654 I can’t recommend Corning, NY enough! If you love small shops and boutiques, charming restaurants and bars, this is a great town. They’ve kept their old 1800’s downtown buildings, and many have shops and restaurants on the street level, offices and, I suppose, apartments , in the floors above. Plan on spending an entire day at the Corning Glass museum-there are that many fascinating exhibits, and you’ll want give your full attention to everything. Really beautiful artwork made of glass here, as well as glass objects dating from before the Roman Empire. There’s also a great gift shop at the museum. Also, demonstrations of glass blowing which are really something to see. There’s also the Rockwell Museum of Western Art, which I didn’t really think I’d like-but I loved! And, do take a drive to the many wineries near Corning. Besides great wines, many serve food as well, and it’s all great! Many are perched in the hills overlooking one of the Finger Lakes, which aren’t that far away, with spectacular views. If you have a deer hunter in the family, but you don’t hunt,,talk them into hunting the area around Corning. You can make this a trip with interests for both of you.

There was a section south of Miami that was covered with dirt for many years; however, the pavement was uncoveredn exposing the one single lane with small concrete ribbons on each side. This single lane crossed the county.
There is something that we, in Oklahoma, are proud of; this is a long unknown Steinbeck book. This is “The Oranges of Wrath”. This is where there were barriers built to keep Californian f out of Oklahoma.

We had a wonderful time in all places, and there were very few crowds.

Great idea on the Dead Weeks. My wife & I went to Portugal in January 2024. It was definitely a slow time for Portugal. Weather wasn’t too cold, but it was a bit rainy. Plenty of museums & castles still open. We loved it! I would definitely go back at that time of year or go somewhere else in southern Europe.

Comment on New Year’s Resolutions for Travelers by Brian Barry https://samantha-brown.com/tips/travel-resolutions-for-new-years/#comment-330833 Wed, 31 Dec 2025 08:13:30 +0000 https://samantha-brown.com/?p=24247#comment-330833 I love what you’ve written about mapping everything out now when you’re in that “new year, new me” mindset.” Pairing this with your idea of exploring both near and far has me wanting to purchase a “travel calendar” for 2026 to hang on my wall that will be a placeholder for monthly travel ideas. I have so many places saved in my Instagram account – places local or afar – but writing their names on a calender changes them from a “one day I’ll go to…” to an “on that day I’ll be going to!” Even if life gets busy and I need to change the date within that month, at least I’ll only be rescheduling – which is better than having not ever penciled the trip in at all! Thank you, and happy 2026!
